Q. How far in advance do I have to reserve a charter
boat?
A. It is possible to arrange a trip on very short notice, but it is advisable
to book your trip well in advance. Many boats are booked as much as a
year ahead. If you are looking to book a particular day, especially if
it is on a weekend, you would be well advised to do it as far in advance
as possible.
Q. What’s
included in the price?
A. Prices on charter boats usually include all of the bait, tackle
and ice. Not included is the tip for the mate. This is typically 15%
to 20% of the price of the trip, and is paid directly to the mate at
the end of the day. On open boats the price does not include tackle
and sometimes not bait. Rental rods are usually available on these
boats. Tips for the mates are customary.
Q. Why should I
fish on a North Fork Captains Association boat?
A. Our members are all experienced, licensed, professional captains.
Our association is dedicated to providing a safe, enjoyable experience
for all of our customers whether they are first time fishermen or seasoned
veterans. We understand that our customer is spending quite a bit of
money and is entitled to a trip that fulfills all of his expectations
What To Bring
Q. Can I bring my own tackle?
A. Most boats allow you to use your own gear, provided it is suited
to the task and does not interfere with other customers ability to
catch fish.
Q. What about alcoholic
beverages?
A. Policy varies from boat to boat but all captains discourage excessive
alcohol consumption. Illegal drugs are absolutely not permitted on
any vessel!
Q. What should
I bring with me?
A. Food and Beverages Suntan Lotion/Sunscreen Sunglasses Camera and
Film Cooler to carry your fish home Seasick Medication (usually taken
several hours before departure)
Q. What should
I wear?
A. Keep in mind that it is usually cooler on the water and weather
conditions can change very quickly. Bring layers of clothing and be
sure to include rain gear and a hat. Comfortable shoes with light colored
soft soles are a must. Some fishermen prefer lightweight boots. It’s
better to have more clothes than you need than not to have enough!
